Good tweaking

The emotional appeal is prevalent after the melody kicks in, before that it was rough hitting and kinda sinister, then after it sounds like something that'd fit into a story about a detective wandering the streets chasing after a murderer.

Let's see what you turn this into.

Didn't think you'd come out with new material here

Very simple and effective mending of the melody itself into the rhythm-fabric of the song itself. You really like the 8bit stuff too, who can't get enough of it?

Really like the mini-breakdown at :45. Very playful song.

Kingbastard responds:

hey man, yeah I always put new stuff up here still, just not for very long, so tracks come and go on my page as I'd get my wrist slapped if the label found out. I thought it's only right to have at least one trk off the new ep up for free though, gotta give props to NG:)
Had enough of the 8-bit eh? I like to use elements of it in my tunes, I am a product of that era after all, it just seem natural to me.
Thanks for the review.

Slammin'

Almost right off the bat I can tell whether tracks like these will be great, or shitty.

The melody itself, alone, seemed to jump around a lot, but you had a lot of backup and accompaniment sounds to accomodate its eccentricity that it pulled off this haywire feeling you'd get watching a group of high tech soldiers fighting off aliens or some kind of shit like that.

The 8-bit vox starting at 1:22 is badass, the subsequent breakdown the melody is a lot more restrained, giving a serene appeal, then launching back into a kind of urgent awareness.

The piece itself is just dripping the same sweat you probably dropped into it making it, nice work.

Waterflame responds:

thank you so much! :) im really glad you liked it. you really know how to review, im kinda out of words here. :D

Neat

When that cello pops in at 0:42, it really alters the atmosphere, the roughness of the strings and the bass take over and give kind of a determination vs the spaciness.

Seems to get a little repetitive at the end, only because it's the cello strumming obsessively while the floaty synth leads it around.

My personal tastes aside, I like what you used and how you used it.

asdkjnuev responds:

I totally understand what you mean by the repetitiveness at the end. Originally it was even longer, heh. I've had my Mac for nearly three years and finally got the gusto to mess around with GarageBand -- it's been terrible amounts of fun but I think the math geek inside me is afraid to do much outside the realm of evenness and proportionality.

Thanks for the review though, it's definitely appreciated :]

Telefon Tel Aviv meets a hesitant foreigner

Not sure if it's really a moody piece, the bell stabs are knitted tightly into the rhythm-fabric of the song itself, giving it a somber edge. The melody itself sounds a lot like the theme at the end of the Fifth Element, just before they save the earth.

Very micro-structured, but with purpose, making it rise above the rest with an unsettling demeanor. And, you went for another slow-motion outro. Not that it gets old, but slow mo is a great way to draw out high quality sounds.

Glib responds:

thanks for the review

Unforced

Your music isn't really my style but piano always gets a plus in my book.

I didn't mind the squeak either. Capture music in all its glory I always thought.

I really like the acoustics of the echo when it changes up at 1:22, the harmonization would fit well with a backing symphony. Very uplifting piece, kind of like getting over a sad event. Could see it being used against images of heroic battles.

After 2:40 is also fantastic, definitely getting an RPG/Final Fantasy vibe. Never really played it though.

good stuff. Pure emotion > music theory.

Phyrnna responds:

Well, I'm glad that you enjoyed the song nonetheless even if it wasn't your style.

I personally did not like the squeak.... or the coughs... or the audience ambience.

Maybe I'll do a version of this in FL studio complete with harmony of strings and all. But.... the only thing that I find is that doing a piano solo in FL doesn't express all the emotion a live performance does.

I wasn't going for a fantasy vibe though. O_O But I guess that's how it came out.

Don't think I need the chemical enhancement...

I never usually do.

First, I noticed the power of the mood setting vox echo to start off the song, great choice of vocals and it has almost a mideast feel. Very clean and it sets up that chopped buzz bass awesomely.

It's a very slow moving piece, I actually downloaded it and sped it up +30bpm out of curiosity and it sounded like the perfect score set to terrorists loading up for a big excursion. Slowed down it sounded like someone trying to keep their heart rate up to avoid hypothermia. Both versions are complimented by the rhythm based structure of the song itself, you've got a lot of tricks up your sleeve and you spread it like peanut butter over bread.

I suppose that is really my own quip with it, it would sound amazing with a sped up climax. Balls out.

Example of underrated pieces

Alright, 6,000 listens and an 853 popularity ranking isn't so underrated, it's simply the style of song that is underrated.

I'd like to think people are driven to harmonic pieces just as they are melodic.
In the previous review, you respond that you don't focus on melodies, yet I can hear the repetitions of several little melodies dancing around each other, while occasionally that echoing VOX mends one synth into bass to match the tone of a snare at the end, and then repeat itself, creating a harmonic world of some lonely soul.

The slow-mo breakdown at 2:33 is also perfection, you begin at around that same vox so it prolongs that emotional appeal that could make anyone want to sit and shiver.

Setting an example for the rest of us.

Glib responds:

thanks man, having people like your music is a good feeling

SOUNDS A BIT LIKE A MAN

I really like what you did with the melody here.

sculpted-cold responds:

I'm pretty sure Chris Crocker is a hermaphrodite.

interesting

The beginning and the end had a sweet melody, minus the drums... And maybe different instrumentation... But still a harkening melody.

Stalagmite responds:

why thank you captain :D:D:D

i am glad you could enjoy the theoretic side of this composition. I dont like it personally. it is nothing like my other compositions. thanks for the review. :D:D:D
